Austria has its own RC44 Syndicate
The Russell Coutts 44 (RC44) is definitely the most advanced regatta sailing boat in recent years. lt is 13.35m long, 2.75m in the beam, the mast is 20m high and the sail area 300m2. This 4 ton racing yacht can reach speeds of up to 25 knots. lt was designed by Russell Coutts, a three time America‘s cup winner and one of the best sailers in the world.
The RC44 class celebrates its fourth birthday this year. With many America‘s cup greats like Russell Coutts, James Spithill, Dean Barker, Sebastian Col and many more, the standard of this class leads worldwide.
The racing circuit (RC44 Champions Tour) consists of six meetings a year:
Puerto Calero-Lanzarotte (SPA)
Cagliari - Sardinia (ITA)
Traunsee - Gmunden (AUT)
Lake Garda (ITA)
Marseilles (FRA)
Dubai (UAE)
These regattas include the Format Match Race (one against one - with the professional sailers at the helm) and the Fleet Race (all teams together - with the boat owners at the helm).
In the season 2009 Austria is also entering its own RC44 syndicate. In the ‘Team Austria‘ (AUT44), Austria‘s top sailers and tacticians, Match Race helmsman Christian Binder and Fleet Race helmsman Rene Mangold, will match themselves against the international sailing greats.
The home base of the syndicate is the Water Sport Arena Traunsee, where the training of the RC44 Champions Tour takes place.
You can also charter this racing yacht for incentives and special events. The boat is stationed in Ebensee.
