Among our Christmas customs is the traditional immersion of a Christmas tree in the lake and the arrival of the Three Kings.
The immersion of the Christmas tree originated in the Traunsee region in 1966. Its actual purpose was to give the children of the SOS Kinderdorf Altmünster and the children´s sanctuary in Gmunden a little fun at Christmas and, at the same time, to commemorate the victims of fatal addicents in the Traunsee.
This commemoration is still maintained today. This pre-Christmas custom takes place on the Saturday before Christmas Eve.
The Three Kings come by boat to the Town Hall Square on 5th January, and there they sing Christmas Carols. This comes together with the Glöcklerlauf.
