the under water paradise of the Traunsee Holiday Region

Ununsual diving locations

Tauchplaetze

MADONNA
(West bank, about 1.5km south of the town of Traunkirchen)
Travelling south, after Traunkirchen, between the first two Sonnstein tunnels, you will find a stature of the Madonna on a small platform (pedestal). Here you can dive along a steep rock face until you reach a plateau at the depth of about 20m. After that the face falls to about 120m.

SEEHOTEL DAS TRAUNSEE
(West bank in Traunsee)
At a depth of 5m there is an instruction platform with a railing. At a depth of 10m you will come across a very unusual diving dome, the shape of which will remind motor enthusiasts of a very well-known car.

LÖWENDENKMAL (lion monument)
(West bank, between Ebensee and Traunkirchen)
Here the rock face has been cut to a depth of about 120m.

MIESWEG
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
Directly below the 1691 m high Traunstein the rock face falls to a depth of more than 100 m. From this location one can dive only from a boat with full equipment.

WEISSER STEINBRUCH
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
Here is a yawning vertical rock face, falling to a depth of 160 m.

EISENAU
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
At this beautiful little bay an inn used to welcome its guests (only the wall of the beer garden is now visible). Particularly exciting are the overhanging rocks that start already at a depth of one metre and extend into the rock face for a few metres. If you dive further to the south, you will reach the quarry ship which sank about 50 years ago, at about a depth of 20 m.

DIE MAUER (the wall)
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
A lovely place, which is attrective not only for its steep rock face.

HUNDSGRABEN (dog´s grave)
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
This little bay in the shape of a sharks´s flipper has also special features to offer, such as the echo wall and an underwater grotto.

FLEDERMAUSBUCHT (Bat Bay)
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
Underwater portal at a depth of 9 m, steep rock faces

KARBACH
(East bank, only accessible by boat)
This peninsula is the most ideal diving location on the east bank - also for groups.
A small, shallow diving area which gives even the inexperienced diver the opportunity to indulge himself in this beautiful underwater hobby.

Towards the south there is a rock face which drops down vertically (partly with overhanging rocks). The steep rock falls are decorated with zebra mussels, as are nearly all the rock faces on the east bank. Around the Karbach bay, tree trunks loom in the dark, and with the little boat wrecks they provide shelter for base and the fish.
This magical place pampers one with a little snack bar.
