People have always been attracted from the mysterious night sky and splendid sparkling stars. Thus, Gmunden look back on an ancient astronomical heritage. Johannes von Gmunden was the most important late-medieval astronomer of his time in Europe. In addition, the original powder tower at “Kalvarien-Mountain” had been expanded to an observatory at around 1949, by Professor Johannes Eisner.

The next summer is coming for sure and the first bicycle tours are planed. Starting with end of April 2012 on, you can use the possibility to rent E-bikes at the guest centre of the Leisure Regoin Lake Traunsee and its fellow companies and do nice tours through the Traunsee Holiday Region, the Grünberg, and the Salzkammergutes area.
The historic tour “Stories from the History” through the old town shows a review on the tradition-rich history of Gmunden upon lake Traunsee. Eleven affectionately designed plates display the development of the town and also visualises it at distinctive places. The tour is pasting many traditional buildings and popular sights and all of the historical important scenes in Gmunden in the Salzkammergut area.
Tradition and innovation is brouht together verbindet by the certified hiking-, alp- and snowshoe guide Axel Wojacek at his offers for guest of the Traunsee Holiday Region as for those of the Salzkammergutes.
